This is a ridiculously sexy read. If you aren't prepared to be totally erotically encaptured in a book- skip passed this one. But if you're looking for something that will have your panties dropping faster than you can pull them back up, Rough Country is sure to do the deed. Vicki Smith is the lead female character in this story. She's caught between two men. Her current over-protective and controlling police chief husband, and her first and only love; a military officer who is determined to pull her away from the man she doesn't deserve. The book pulls you (and Vicki) back and forth between these men as they compete to win her over, and win her forever.This book is steamy, risque, and not for those who blush easily. With that being said, if you're ready for something this sexually intense- this book actually has a great storyline behind it. There are a lot of books in the literotica genre that are written purely for the sex scenes, losing site of the rest of the storyline and coming off bland and not worth finishing. I hate wasting my time on a book that, at the end, didn't even have a solid storyline behind it. This book didn't have that issue. The character development was done well. Vicki's controlling husband comes to life in a manner that both entices and disturbs you. I could clearly picture him, and by the end of the book truly got a grasp for the kind of man he was. On the other hand, Vicki's military lover takes a different stance- slowly pulling you in and showing you a softer contrast to her very stiff-hearted husband. It was a fun read, and really forced you to come to terms with all of their characters and their pre-positioned fates.
The plot was filled with all of the twists and turns I'd hoped for. It's not your typical romance read, but the intensity of the sexual undertone takes it to an entirely new level. The build-up is amazing, and by the end you'll be gripping the pages with sweaty palms. There are chapters that tease you, leading into more satisfying moments later on. It's a fun book, to be taken lightly, and probably best read behind closed doors. *wink

Set in the wild hunting lands of Idaho, Sadistic Chief of Police Talon Smith keep his lovely wife Vicki a prisoner i their own home. So when the only man she ever truly loved, Tim Ballenger, returns, he may need to use his military training to rekindle old desires. As the story unfolds we discover that both men are determined to capture and keep the woman they love.
This is another terrific (and steamy) title from Alvin Slater that focuses on police corruption, sexual and emotional abuse. His ability to create and develop believable and relatable characters, as well as engrossing situations. The relationship between Tim and Vicki was sexy and superhot, and Talon’s unrelenting nature created a lusty love triangle that kept me hooked from the first chapter through to the last.
Excellent work. I can’t wait to read more from Alvin Slater.
The setting is Idaho. The female protagonist has been trapped in a beautiful but "rough country' by her bully of a husband. When her long remembered first love returns for his mother's funeral, the reunion is unforgettable. Freedom at last.
Did not like this book at all! Many emotions, sad, happy, disgusted! Not the best read! Best thing about it is it's short!
I'm a big fan of Alvin Slater's books and this might be my favorite yet. It has a whole new level of darkness to it, and mixed in with the romance it's something completely new for me. I couldn't help but root for Tim's character throughout the whole book and found myself wishing that him and Vicki could just be together! With Talon in the mix, it made things a whole lot more complicated...and dangerous. Overall, another amazing book that I would highly recommend!
Mr Slater just keeps ramping it up and bringing us more enjoyable content. This is my favorite one yet, I loved all the others that I have read by this fantastic author, but this one is the best. The Tim and Vicki storyline is perfectly written to pull our heart strings and it does it excellently. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly are all brought into play in this story, Vicki and Tim being the Good, Talon being the Bad and his attitude being the Ugly. I would highly recommend this book to all adults as the story far outweighs the juicier parts,in my opinion.
Vickie and Tim meet as teenagers and have a "young pure love"! Somehow, their relationship doesn't last because Vickie marries the town bully. His name is Talon and he is the Chief of Police and a mean and cruel man. They have a 6 years old daughter. Vickie is a prisoner in her own home; that's how controlling Talon is of his unhappy wife.
There are a moderate number of typo errors, as if it needed one last reading before publishing. Just a little distracting.
This is a fascinating story of three people and their own little hell on earth. It is a complex story of love and relationships, mistakes and regrets. The suspense is real, the erotica creative, and the romance a once-in-a-lifetime union.

In fact, his writing has inspired me to take a break from horror and try my hand at erotica. I know I'll never come close to his abilities because he is truly the master of erotic adventure tales.
